Only 40 minutes from the Toussaint L’ouverture Airport, located on the serene mountains of Fermathe and one of the highest points of Fort Jacques, sits the 21-room, 21^stcentury modernized, Louisiana style, mansion-like guest-house/ hotel where the amenities may seem over-comforting. While there, we were able to visit the historical Fort Jacques, which is a 10-15 minute walk from the Auberge sur la Montagne. You can also explore the mountains of near-by Kenscoff, enjoy horse-back riding, and still have the convenience of being close to Petion-Ville for night-life.  We also visited the open-markets, the Museum of Fermathe, local hospital, orphanage and even a zoo. Yes, Haiti has a zoo. While most of the wild animals that used to exist in Haiti have vanished, Fermathe still maintains a haven for monkeys, peacocks and pelicans.
